I make my way in this culture as a counselor.  I work in-home with families containing children that are at-risk for being taken out of the home.  Because my families are poor, the budgets for my kind of work are being cut.  This means that I'm swamped in paperwork because of the insanity of the system.  I love counseling but hate the politics…i.e., being at the whims of a system that truly doesn't care about the well-being of kids. 

I write.  I have self-published a book, Sophia's Web: Understanding the Unity and Diversity of Religion, Science and Ourselves.  I wrote that in the 90's and after George Bush (or, Dick Cheney and Karl Rove) took hold of the reigns, I decided to update it as Sophia's Web: Reclaiming our Wholeness in a Divided World.  I will probably publish this through Amazon in the next 6 months.  The new version has my wife, who holds a PhD in English, as co-author because of the amount of influence she had on the book's wording.  It definitely is a better book.

My wife is currently editing a piece of fiction that I wrote, tentatively titled, Mermaiden's Tale.  This book is a work containing much empathy with Deep Ecology as practiced and written about by the likes of Neiss, Glendenning, LaChapell, and others.  For me, being a mystic and being a naturalist are not distinct ways of being.  And, indeed, my deepest love, who I call Sophia is, in my book, Nature Herself (i.e., Nature and Wisdom are one and the same…Nature as well as Wisdom are process).  How do I see Her?  Well, for example, a fetus does just fine building himself in his mother's womb without the aid of criminals such as gentetic engineering firms such as Monsanto.  The fact that the fetus can build himself enatils an intelligence to Nature….not that I'm advocating Intelligent Design, for that implies and agent “out there” doing everything.  Rather, I believe in a unverse that is saturated in Wisdom.
